Chapter 379: His Identity
Chapter 379: His Identity
At that moment, Alistair Forrest still didn’t know who Nathaniel Nathan was. However, he believed that anyone who helped Vera Xavier was a good person, an ally. Therefore, the best course of action was to cooperate.
Most importantly, Alistair Forrest could see that Nathaniel Nathan held no malice toward him.
Susan Caldwell looked at Nathaniel Nathan in confusion, but Leo Wright pulled her back with his uninjured hand.
Nathaniel Nathan picked up his bulky cell phone and dialed a number. "This is Direwolf. We have people at the Trellis Jade Market impersonating narcotics officers and abusing their authority. They’re still in the market. Please dispatch a team immediately to thoroughly investigate the matter."
He hung up the phone as soon as he was done.
Leo Wright couldn’t help but be shocked when he heard this. "You’re Direwolf?"
Nathaniel Nathan had already noticed the military aura about him, so he wasn’t surprised by the reaction. He asked directly, "What unit were you with?"
Since leaving the service, the one question Leo Wright dreaded most was "What unit?" His expression turned sour as he muttered, "I’ve been discharged."
Nathaniel Nathan glanced at him, then at Susan Caldwell, the contempt in his eyes completely undisguised.
He didn’t say a single word, but it made Leo Wright’s expression darken. Leo knew that Nathaniel Nathan had figured out this was a trap they had set for Vera Xavier. Once this was exposed, the consequences would be extremely severe. He feared the news would even reach Mr. and Mrs. Caldwell, and this time, Susan Caldwell’s actions would be impossible to conceal.
He couldn’t stop himself from saying, "This is just a trivial matter. There’s no need to alarm the leadership at the provincial bureau."
He guessed Nathaniel Nathan had called the provincial bureau, as that would be the most efficient route.
Nathaniel Nathan replied indifferently, "Of course, a trivial matter like this doesn’t need to alarm the leadership at the provincial bureau."
His call had gone directly to the Central Narcotics Bureau. He knew that his call would ensure the matter was dealt with at the highest possible speed.
Leo Wright breathed a sigh of relief. As long as it didn’t reach the provincial bureau, they could find a way to suppress the matter at the municipal level just by revealing their identities.
Susan Caldwell finally realized how unusual the situation was. She couldn’t help but glance at Leo Wright, but he just shook his head, warning her not to provoke Nathaniel Nathan. He was not someone they could afford to offend, especially since what they were doing was far from honorable.
Only then did Susan Caldwell quiet down. She looked at the coolly aloof Nathaniel Nathan, bit her lip, and asked, "Are you from Veridia, too?"
’In her eyes, all impressive people must have come from Veridia.’
But Nathaniel Nathan had no intention of humoring her. He answered directly, "No, I’m from Crestfall."
Susan Caldwell’s face instantly turned foul. She had, just moments before, claimed that Crestfall was full of con artists and frauds.
She couldn’t help but glance at Vera Xavier, who was also from Crestfall. ’Could it be they knew each other from before?’
’But on second thought, that didn’t seem right. Crestfall was a big city; he wouldn’t necessarily know Vera Xavier. Besides, the look he gave Vera when he first walked in wasn’t exactly friendly.’
Meanwhile, Chief Lewis had struggled back to his feet. He was still bellowing, "You dare assault a police officer in broad daylight and help a drug trafficker? You must be one of them! Men, get him! Take him down!"
His corpulent body trembled as he lunged at Nathaniel Nathan. Nathaniel kicked him again, this time holding nothing back. The force sent Chief Lewis flying into a wall, and blood immediately began to stream from his forehead.
