Chapter 928: Do They Think I’m Just for Show
Summer Monroe’s heart jolted; she figured Damian Knight had probably started to suspect her.
She hurried to steady herself, but still couldn’t help feeling nervous.
She swallowed before saying, "Nothing much, I just came to the hospital to see Dottie’s mom, that’s all."
"Just that?"
"Just that."
"Okay, then I’ll buy a ticket and fly back now."
Summer froze and asked, "You’ve already finished your business?"
"No. I’ll come back, take one look at you to make sure you’re fine, and then return to Rivain."
Summer bit her lip, knowing Damian Knight had already guessed something had happened to her.
There was no helping it; Summer could only tell the truth.
"Alright, actually something did happen. I just had an IV, but I’m fine now."
"What happened?" Damian Knight’s voice dropped even lower.
Summer couldn’t help letting out a sigh.
She tried to hide this and that, yet she still couldn’t hide anything from Damian Knight...
"Actually, the Grant Family has their eye on me."
She used the briefest words to explain how the Grant Family had sent mercenaries, then quickly added, "I really wasn’t hurt at all, so don’t make a special trip back because of me. Besides, I’ve already been to The Vanguard. They were very polite to me and cooperated with my arrangements. They’re already thoroughly investigating the Grant Family."
"Got it." Damian Knight’s voice was especially cold. He exhaled and said, "Looks like from now on I’d better take you with me wherever I go, so certain people don’t strike while I’m away. As for the Grant Family... don’t worry, I’ll make sure this debt is paid."
Anyone who dared lay a hand on his woman was asking to die.
Summer hummed in reply and said apologetically, "I’m sorry, I know I shouldn’t have kept this from you at first, but I was afraid it would affect you. Just like when you hid the Trevia incident from me last time, I was scared you’d act on impulse and get yourself into trouble, putting yourself in danger."
"I understand... but Sadie, you should trust me a little more. Even for your sake, I wouldn’t throw myself into danger. How could I bear to leave you alone in this world, right?"
"Mm..." Before she knew it, Summer realized her face was wet with tears.
She didn’t even know why she was crying, but just hearing Damian Knight’s voice made her feel grounded; all that vulnerability she never showed anyone else was laid bare in front of Damian.
The two of them talked for quite a while, and it wasn’t until Ryder Quinn finished her admission paperwork and came over to call her that she snapped back to herself, clutching the phone and saying to Damian Knight, "I won’t keep you from your work."
"Alright. Next time something like this happens, tell me right away. Okay?"
"Okay."
"Good. Then go home and get some rest. Don’t go to the school archives for now. Your health comes first. Even if you do go, have Cece and Bella go with you."
"I understand."
Damian Knight nagged her with a few more reminders, until Ryder Quinn at her side couldn’t help urging, "Are you two done force-feeding dog food yet?" Only then did Damian let Summer hang up.
Once the call ended, Damian Knight’s dark eyes grew even heavier and colder.
The Grant Family...
They’d been local bullies for so long they’d really started to think Damian Knight was just for show!
Expressionless, Damian Knight pressed the intercom and told the manager to come in.
"Young Master Knight, what can I do for you?"
The moment the manager looked up, he met Damian Knight’s gaze, sharp and frigid like an ice pick.
He was so startled his knees began to tremble.
"Y-Young Master Knight? Did I do something wrong?"
